Funeral Expenses for Nicholas Zahorcak
Donation protected
Nicholas Alexander Zahorcak, 25, passed peacefully Sunday, December 5, 2021 at Keck University Medical Center in Los Angeles following a courageous, lifelong struggle with Recessives Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB) – a very rare and debilitating skin disorder that causes internal and external blistering.
Born on November 25th, 1996, in Mesa, AZ, he was the son of Nick Zahorcak and Silvia Corradin. Even though he was fed through a feeding tube for most of his life, he still loved food. His favorite pastime was watching food shows and videos on YouTube and he probably would have become a chef if he had been able to.
He was a 2015 graduate of Desert Sands Charter High School, and was known for being an avid video gamer who loved Super Mario. He truly enjoyed being a camp counselor at Camp Wonder, in Livermore, CA, a camp for children with skin diseases that he attended as a camper since he was 6 years old.
The examples of courage and resiliency that he demonstrated will endure forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. Together with his mother, Nicky helped spread awareness about EB all over the world in the course of his life-long battle. People from all over have been touched by Nicky’s perseverance and his smile despite his lifetime of physical pain. For this reason, Nicky was featured on the Discovery Life Channel, Born Different, and on numerous local TV News stories about how well he coped with his illness and kept a positive attitude throughout.
He is preceded in death by his brother Alexander Luciano Zahorcak and his grandfather John Zahorcak and in addition to his loving parents and step-father Greg Lawniczak he is survived by his brother Connor; his step-siblings Skylar & Dante; his step-niece Remi; his maternal Grandparents Luciano Corradin and Laura Lencia; and his paternal grandmother Francesca Saxman; Aunt Lorena Corradin and Uncle Enrico Invernizzi; Aunt Katia Corradin and Uncle Marco Bellomo; Aunt Silvia Guilez and Uncle John Zahorcak.
Nicky was the epitome of love, strength and courage. He has traded his butterfly wings for angel wings and will never be forgotten.
Link to his obituary coming soon. There you will be able to leave a special memory of Nicky or a special message for him which will be included in his memorial book. It will mean a lot to us. Thank you
