Nicole Owens Medical Expenses

    Hi, My name is Nicole; I'm 33 years old and recently diagnosed with Fibrosis stage 4 liver disease. These last six months have been extremely tough for my husband and me. We have 2 beautiful children. I will do everything in my power to live a long healthy life to be around for them.
      I noticed small changes in my body, always being tired, itchy, and feeling sluggish. I went to the doctor every month for 3 months check all types of levels. Then we noticed my liver levels going up to very extreme high. After waiting on a wait list for a few months Mayo clinic in MN, was able to get me in. We have been driving up every month and staying at a hotel when we go up, since my days are packed with appointments. I have had lots of blood work done, CT scans, MRI, fibro scans, and more done so far. I have a team of doctors trying to reverse what they can. I do have scarring (cirrhosis) that I will never be able to fix. Since I am so young, and don't have family history of liver disease, I will need scans every six months to check me for cancer for the rest of my life.

I know times are hard, and this has been hard for even me to post. However, my medical bills, gas, and hotels have really taken a toll financially on us. My husband and I have been trying to work overtime to try and keep up with the bills coming in and time off work we have needed. All the money will go to my bills at Mayo clinic, oil changes, and gas to get me to my upcoming appointments.

  To answer a few question, this is non-alcoholic disease. My liver is storing cells and getting rid of all vitamins. So its pushing my liver into my ribs. My liver is 3x the size of a normal one. Right now there is no talk about a transplant.  With the right medications, check ups and lifestyle changes I should be able to go years without one. That's why making all my trips to Mayo are important.
