Nicole Schweppe's BreastCancerFund
Spende geschützt
A few weeks ago we received the devastating news that my beautiful sister-in-law, Nicole has breast cancer. She is a young 29yr old mother of two, Penny 2yrs, and Jude 5months. Her husband Derrik has been amazing through all of this. I cannot tell you how thankful we are for him in her life! I am going to steal an excerpt from her blog to share the story in Nicole's words:
"This whole journey started just over a month ago. I found a lump in my right breast and immediately thought, oh this is nothing. I called my OB to have it checked out the following Monday. My Dr. wasn't concerned, neither was the Radiologist that I saw right after. He did suggest getting it removed since it was growing fast. I got an appointment for the next morning to see the surgeon, there I got another "this is nothing". There is about a 1% chance these lumps turn into anything. I scheduled the lumpectomy for 2 weeks later. After that surgery I felt great. The surgery went well and it didn't slow me down in the slightest. I went in for my follow-up on Friday, March 31st. The Dr. asked me about the scar and I blabbed on about how great I felt yadda yadda. He then said that the results came back and it wasn't what they were expecting. At that moment my heart sank. He then proceeded to tell us I have breast cancer and it is aggressive. My world changed forever in that moment."
Since this time they have been to many doctor appointments and will continue to do so over the next few weeks until everything is decided. What we do know at this point, is that she will be having a double mastectomy. She will also have to endure months of Chemotherapy treatment. At some point Nicole will also need recontructive surgery as well. Derrik and Nicole were most heartbroken by the news that if they want more children, they will have to freeze eggs and have IVF. This was by far the hardest part for them.
When a young family is hit with this sort of news it is just devastating, you don't even want to think about the money, from medical bills to loss of income from unpaid leave, and everything inbetween, but that is the reality of these types of situations. Nicole and Derrik, as well as many family members have been asked if they were going to be setting up a place to donate to their cause. That is why I set up this Go Fund Me Acct in Nicole's honor! Thanks for your donations and prayers!
