Hello, I am Nicole's Aunt and trying to set up this page for her and her family.with the help of her friend Rachel.

let me tell you about a really special person that all of us should know. Her name is Nicole Sprague, or as my children formally call her, Aunt Sniffy. and her nieces and nephews call her aunt Coco

Nicole is the kind of person we all should aspire to be like. She is passionate, driven, hard working, brave, reliable, hilarious, stunning, and an amazing mother, daughter, sister and friend. She has overcome, conquered, and accomplished an incredible amount of things in her short 34 years on this earth. She is a United States Marine Corps combat Veteran (2007-2012) who served one tour of duty in Afghanistan. She holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Ogeechee Technical College. Nicole was a Evans County Deputy Sheriff in Georgia and was recently sworn into the Bryan’s County Deputy Sheriff’s Department where she was set to start duty in July. She has worked incredibly hard to accomplish all this while also raising her 13 year old son, Brock, as a single mother. Nicole is the epitome of the term “noble citizen.”

In mid July Nicole was treated for minor health issues in Georgia. She was celebrating her last day of employment with Evans county when she was hit with what one can only describe as a completely tragic life event. Nicole’s son Brock was visiting her parents in Florida these last few weeks of summer before school was set to kick back in for Brock and Nicole found herself experiencing some health problems that led her to the ER on her final day of duty with Evans county. Nicole was treated for a UTI and double ear infection and was sent home where her symptoms began to spiral. After two days of uncontrolled vomiting her best friend Vikki drove her down to Florida to get Brock as planned. Once in Florida she continued to decline. Nicole was incredibly weak so her mother Dottie took her back to the ER for a repeat evaluation. She was admitted this time around and it was then found that Nicole was in complete, and sudden, kidney failure. It was unknown what was the cause of this sudden renal failure, but due to her compromised state she began to experience uncontrolled seizures. She desperately needed to be stabilized immediately therefore she was transferred to a larger facility in Orlando per her mother Dottie’s request. This facility was more equipped to deal with her extensive medical needs. Once transferred it was discovered that Nicole was suffering from brain swelling and she was diagnosed with Posterior Reversible Encephalopathy Syndrome (PRES), which is a rare condition in which parts of the brain are affected by swelling causing a number of neurological side effects. Nicole was stabilized and her seizures were under control, but she had lost her vision completely. Nicole is now legally blind. Nicole was transferred to a rehab facility where she had to take on an entirely new reality of being vision impaired, on top of the other medical issues the diagnosis of PRES has caused. She spent about a month hospitalized total but was finally released and is now under the full-time care of her mother Dottie in Florida. Nicole wants you all to know that her loss of site is temporary. she is expected to regain her site within 3 months...

Nicole, and her family's lives have just been flipped completely upside down and the road has just begun. A road she now cannot currently even see. Nicole will now have to move her well established, independent life with her son Brock, a life that she has been building for herself in Georgia, back to her mothers in Florida for an unknown amount of time. Nicole had to rehome one of beloved dogs as she is unable to fully care for her under these circumstances. Her son Brock will now have to start at a new school, in a new state in less then a weeks time. Nicole’s entire reality has now been shifted with many unknown factors affecting her and her family.

She was set to start her new Deputy position with Bryan’s County just two days prior to her initial hospitalization. Due to the change in job she was still on a probationary period therefore she is unable to collect any benefits leaving her without a source of income at this time. She has also already had some issues with getting the medications she needs due to insurance not covering them. She has even been declined certain medical items, such as a wheelchair, and has been left to find alternative sources for these sorts of needs that will help her to regain some sort of independence and stability in this new world she has to take on blind. Nicole plans to attend a program for the legally blind to help her navigate this new reality. Her road to recovery is one with many factors and it is unknown what sort of time-line she is facing.

Nicole, Brock, and her family could really use any help and support available to them at this time. Please consider donating and or sharing her story if you are unable to donate. Nicole is an impeccable person and she will find her footing in due time, but we are asking for support to help lighten the financial load that this event has, and will cause her and her family.
