Nico's Sexual Reassignment Surgery
Donation protected
Hey ~~I am Nico, a 27-year-old transsexual man living in NYC. I began medically transitioning with testosterone three years ago and had top surgery (double mastectomy with free nipple grafts) just under two years ago. When I moved to NYC last summer, I signed up for a bottom surgery consultation, knowing that I would now have access to transgender healthcare far better than I had ever experienced. Over the last month, I have had three surgery consults and am so excited to be scheduled with the team of Dr. Miroslav L. Djordjevic, Dr. Rajveer Purahit, and Dr. Aaron Grotas at Mount Sinai, NY for this June 4th, in less than a month and a half.
For me, bottom surgery is a matter of alleviating gender dysphoria, helping ensure safety in public bathrooms, and will also hopefully help with daily anatomical pain and discomfort I currently experience. When I was originally meeting with this team, we were discussing a surgery date later in summer. Upon consult yesterday, I learned that the later dates have not been finalized, but that they were booking for the first week in June, and thought I'd be a wonderful candidate for this procedure then. I'm really excited to move forward with this surgery in such capable hands, and with the support of my loved ones and community.
Because I was expecting to have the next couple of months to save for surgery, I now need to fundraise a significant amount to allow me to take off the amount of work that I need in order to fully recover, as well as to pay for food, living expenses, housing, caretakers during my recovery, and medicine. I will be hospitalized for at least several days following my procedure, and then for the following three weeks or so I am strongly discouraged from walking, especially stairs. I live on the third floor of my apartment so having a caretaker during these weeks will be helpful, even if just to bring food up and down the stairs.
Recovery will last 6-8 weeks in general if all goes well. I'm expecting to take a month and a half - two months off work for a full recovery. The likelihood of getting a complication with this specific procedure is quite high, but I'm not currently fundraising for what my living costs would reflect if that was to take place and extend the recovery time. I definitely experienced with top surgery what it was like to push myself too hard and regret how it affected my healing, so I am trying my hardest with this one to set myself up to recover peacefully.
Thank you so much for reading and sending me your support on this big chapter of my life! I would love to mention that I would be so happy to not just receive donations, but if you'd like me to mail you an original drawing ~or if I can help you creatively with anything like photo retouch or design, I'd be soo interested in doing that in exchange for your support! Please message me at [email redacted] or on Instagram at @nicogogan if this is something you'd be interested in. Also, if you can share this, that would be incredibly helpful.
