NICU Support for The Feinauer Family
Any one familiar with large families know things rarely go according to plan and while large families are very adept at "improvise, adapt, and overcome" - sometimes they need a little help to do that.
While pregnant with Baby #10, Nichole was hospitalized with pre-eclampsia. The original hope was to stabilize her dangerously high blood pressure and allow Baby to stay safe and keep growing. After about a week of hospitalization and older siblings running the show at home, Nichole was not responding to medications and the difficult decision was made to induce just shy of 31 weeks.
Even as a midwife with decades of experience in birth work, this was uncharted territory for Nichole, Scott and the entire family. Baby Rafael was born after a long and difficult labor. He is strong but still has a long stay in the NICU ahead. Nicole is recovering well but greatly missed at home. They are fortunate to live close to the hospital that will be Rafael's home for the next 9-10 weeks but with that comes a significant bill...and the added expenses that won't be covered - lots of gas, parking, hospital meals, missed work for follow up appointments, and care coordination for other young children as they learn their "new normal" of NICU.
All women and families need community support during the postpartum "4th Trimester" -- even more so when situations are unexpected and less than ideal. The Feinauer Family will be extremely grateful for any and all support we can provide !
