Nigel's Fundraiser for English Classes at PBIC!
PBIC is a multilingual support charity offering listening, information, advice, guidance as well as social connections and introduction to learning at our ESOL classes. Our clients are all vulnerable migrants with multiple barriers to receiving advice and learning. These barriers include traumas of war and being displaced, homelessness, metal health, financial hardships, experiences of hate crime and lack of access.
When clients begin their journeys towards improving their lives by reaching for help to PBIC they often seek access to free legal service. Their English is often very limited and to enable them to proactively be involved in positively shaping their own future they need to learn ESOL.
ESOL classes not only teach 4 language skills, but they also often strengthen our clients giving them sense of community. Learners report gaining confidence and resilience as well.
For many years PBIC have run on average 12 classes per term. In large proportion this was funded through European Social Fund. Unfortunately, this funding is now gone and no equivalent replacement available. Despite funding loss, PBIC is trying to deliver as many classes as possible.
Thanks to Bedford College, Bedfordshire Skills and Learning Academy, our 2 volunteer teachers Gordon and Sabina, we are able to offer 8 classes in Autumn/Spring term.
We are missing another 4 and our waiting lists are growing rapidly.
Could you support PBIC to deliver these classes?
I'm running this year aiming to raise £910 for PBIC to be able to deliver this essential learning.
