Nika Design - Building Fire Recovery Fund
Donation protected
We are so sad to be writing that the beloved home of our leather shop at 205 Abbot Street was critically affected by the recent fire.
On 11th April 2022, a fire broke out in our heritage building in Gastown. Our store, Nika Design, was located on the ground level and has been a staple of the community since 2007. Unfortunately, we have lost everything, and the damage to the building is so bad that we will need to permanently relocate.
We are appealing to anybody that is able to chip in to help us back onto our feet. We are struggling to cover the costs to our business and our efforts to secure a new location, any help would be so greatly appreciated.
The building was also home also to a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) women's shelter. More than 70 residents living in the single-room occupancy (SRO) housing in the upper floors have also lost their homes and all of their belongings after flames tore through the building on Monday. To support residents affected by the fire, please contact Atira Women's Resource Society. Atira is currently accepting donations for the evacuees at 305 Main St. The most urgent needs are clean socks and underwear.
