Nine Line Apparel Mask Initiative
Donation protected
In the absence of Federal Funding, Nine Line Apparel is working with industry leaders in manufacturing like Bella Canvas, engineers from RCO Engineering and scientists specializing in non-woven materials like nano-fibers from around the globe. This unofficial Task Force is striving to test potential solutions in days because we do not have months or even weeks to wait on others to develop a viable/scalable solution in this critical time.
After days of internal testing and review, we realized the most effective way to mass-produce filtration material is to design the filtration in a square pattern rather than a circle (to maximize the use of this limited resource). The design concept here has two components rather than one and will require funding to create an injection mold. When filtration material is seated between these two components, a vacuum seal is created when strapped to the wearer.
We are currently only able to create this version via 3D printers which cannot scale production. To scale production, an injection mold will cost $200,000 per component. Once complete one facility can scale to 3,000 masks per day at a cost of approximately $15. The filtration material is also currently being tested and at scale should cost under $.30 per filter. This option could facilitate the need of a reusable mask that can be cleaned with an alcohol based solution or UV light treatment with replaceable filters for a fraction of the cost spent on N95 masks.
We are happy to share our research on nano-fibers, injection molds, or mass production of protective masks with any organization interested in accelerating the FDA testing and approval process. At this time we can make no claims or assertions that this mask will protect as well as a certified N95 mask.
If you are able to donate, you will be contributing to a Patriotic cause of the highest order. Our mission is to find a solution and distribute the steps necessary; not hoard the information for profit. All proceeds go towards the out of pocket cost associated with this mission. Thank you all for taking the time to read about this initiative to put life-saving, American Made masks in the hands of those whose lives are dependent on this innovative option for protection.
