Nirvan needs help

Hello, I'm Needhika, the mother of Nirvan Dutta, a 13-month-old boy and my only child. Nirvan has faced numerous health challenges since the first days of his life. He was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection just 11 days after his birth, leading to a week-long stay in the NICU at Greater Baltimore Medical Center. Subsequently, he battled severe eczema leading to 8 days hospital stay and underwent genetic testing to identify the root cause of his frequent health issues.
The results revealed that Nirvan has congenital neutropenia with a gene mutation known as PGM3. This condition makes him prone to life-threatening infections as his neutrophil counts, crucial for fighting infections, drop to dangerous levels. And it leads to immunodeficiency, making it difficult for his body to produce antibodies in response to vaccines.
With only 40 recorded cases worldwide till date, this condition is extremely rare, posing significant challenges for treatment. For the first eight months of his life, Nirvan spent one week in the hospital for every three weeks at home. Despite facing setbacks in his growth, there was a glimmer of hope as his infections became less severe through treatment at Johns Hopkins Baltimore.
However, when my husband’s work permit ended in June-2023, we had to use our life savings on a tourist visa to continue his treatment in the U.S. As the tourist visa also expired in December 2023, we were compelled to return to India. Nirvan was hospitalized just 3 days after we landed in India and currently he is in the ICU at Tata Medical Centre, Kolkata battling a lung infection with pneumonia. His medical journey ahead involves a bone marrow transplant, a complex process requiring years of recovery.
As a parent, I am determined to provide the best care for my child, and we aim to move him back to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for ongoing treatment. This journey is challenging, and we need your support. Nirvan will be brought back to The States on an emergency medical visa in air ambulance, and during the visa process, he will receive care at Apollo Hospital Chennai.
Your assistance in any form would be immensely appreciated. I am grateful for the support of everyone who can contribute to Nirvan's well-being.
