We are raising seed money to hire our Editor and film producer. Black House Black Joy is a non-commercial independently grass-roots organized documentary film telling the story of the House Music Community in New Jersey. The film chronicles the 2019 summer house music season from March- October through the lenses of four media makers: Momotv Film Narrator + Co-Director Dan Shiver Mediamaker + Line Producer Cano El Nene Photographer + Line Producer Jamara Wakefield Writer + Director Collectively we attended over 200 House Music Events last summer and want to bring the story of NJ House to the world. The film pays special attention to the rise of the legendary Club Zanzibar in Newark and its legacy in birthing the now booming festival culture throughout the state. The film focuses on Black joy, community self-determination in the face of ongoing socio-economic challenges from the Newark riots to the Newark water crisis.
