Creating Home Libraries for ALL Children
Reading Refuges is a project started by Hermenegildo Paulo in the summer of 2019 to place libraries into the homes of our neediest students, many of whom are immigrants and asylum seekers, in Portland, ME. A Reading Refuge is a collection of used and new books, a crate to store them, and a comfy seat to enjoy a good story. Pre-COVID 19, we were able to gift nearly 100 Portland students with Reading Refuges with donations from our community.
Now, we need your help!
Due to COVID-19, we are excited to expand to help young readers and their families across Southern Maine. Your donations go directly to purchasing multilingual books and the products needed to create the Reading Refuge: crates, foam, wood, and fabric. With books and materials, each Reading Refuge costs about $30, and so every amount helps!
Please help bring the gift of reading to all children that need it!
Thanks so much for your support.
