NK Kids Lunch Brigade
Donation protected
North Kitsap schools have closed because of COVID-19 , and students that would normally receive free or reduced lunches at school may not have access to food while their parents are at work. The NKSD is contemplating how to still provide breakfast and lunch during the closure, but what about the kids whose parents are at work and can't make it to their schools? Or the parents who want to keep their kids quarantined but still need lunch for their kids?
Caffe Cocina and other community partners (Fishline, Walmart, Safeway, CB's Nuts, Central Market, and more!) are coming together to provide FREE lunches at designated pick-up points throughout North Kitsap while schools are closed. There will be a sign up for parents and the opportunity to designate where you'd prefer to pick up. Partners will be able to coordinate curbside pickup to minimize contact.
Please consider donating to our effort! All of your donations will go to support food purchasing and distribution for bagged lunches for North Kitsap K-8 students, and any contributions over and above our need will be donated to Fishline. Thank you so much for coming together during this time of uncertainty!
UPDATE 3/14
Hey everyone! My name is Kelsey and I'm a community member in the Bremerton/Silverdale area. I met Eric Mahler, owner of Caffe Cocina in Poulsbo, when I used to manage a local coffeeshop. When I saw his post on Facebook about wanting to help the community with lunches for kids, I knew I had to help! There are many other amazing people also a part of this effort, from other businesses to Eric's employees at Caffe Cocina and volunteers who reached out via Facebook.
The money raised here will go through Eric directly to support this effort - your money WILL not be used for any other purpose or business and, as stated before, any contributions over and above our need will be donated to Fishline. The funds will be spent on groceries and packaging (i.e. sandwich fixings, brown paper baggies, etc.) and potential costs related to distribution (i.e. gas). Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns! We know that the NKSD will be doing a similar effort for free and reduced meal students, however our concern is that they won't be able to meet the needs of working parents or parents who do not want their children gathering en masse with other people during this time. We are trying to focus on the kids that the NKSD may not be able to serve, or to partner with NKSD in any way that we can!
