On January 3rd our union sister Nkosa Barrett gave birth to a healthy baby girl. A few days later on the 9th of January , While she was taking her baby to her first doctor appointment she collapsed. She was rushed to the Lenox hill hospital, where they discovered a brain aneurysm. She was rushed to emergency surgery, then later had to undergo a second surgery. Her surgeries were successful but Nkosa is being monitored for vasospams and strokes. As a union member , a union sister , an apprentice , a new mother and my bestfriend she needs us. Nkosa has a very deep love for local 1 and the UA all together. She will tell me hours and hours of stories about her job or meeting new people in the trades. She traveled to UA conferences across the country , meeting other UA members and making friends. Nkosa always took time to help new union members or just gave them advice. She volunteers to numerous programs talking to women , girls and boys about becoming a union plumber. She is the definition of solidarity. Nkosa will be out for a very long time. She will have many doctor visits , just to monitor her brain constantly over the next few months. The doctors will be monitoring another aneurysm that was found and making sure her brain is draining fluids naturally. Nkosa will have a very long and difficult road back to doing what she love and she will need your prayers and support. Whatever you can give would be greatly appreciated and please share with your friends and family
