Help Robert fight for his life!
As some of you know Robert was
admitted to hospital 3 weeks ago.
It started with leg cramps and then
shoulder and back pain. By the 4th day he could not move it had spread to his neck and head. He was in severe pain, that i had call an ambulance. They did a lumbar puncture as they thought of meningitis, but after 3 days of tests, he fell into a deep sedative sleep. Earlier hours of the following morning he was given and MRI and rushed into surgery, where he had an epidural abscess on his spine in the neck area. It is a rare disorder caused by infection in the area between the bones of the spine and the membrane covering the spinal cord. If left unattended you can have serious neurological problems or death.
They removed and drained out as much as they could and went back in another time. They also had to shave some bone and tissue to release pressure on the spine. He was also put on a ventilator.
9 days passed and not once did he wake or open his eyes. Earlier hours of 10th day of him not waking, i got a called at 5am to day his heart stopped beating but they got it beating again with CPR .
This is the last thing you want to hear. I felt so scared and so helpless . I did not want to loose my husband. We had booked to renew our 30th wedding anniversary on 5 December 2020 on Daytona beach.
Another MRI was done and once again I received a call from the surgeon , that they had found several pus pockets in another area of the spine and needed to open him up . But due to the heart issue, they told me , they can do surgery but its high risk that he wont make it. Or they treat him with antibiotics but the chance of getting rid of the pockets is almost zero and he would die from it.
I made the decision to go ahead with surgery , and it was successful. After 14 days he opened is eyes , it was like a miracle. He could not talk due to the respirator tubes. But could not stay awake for longer than 5 sec.
3 days ago they did another MRI before they could finally close him up and they realized there where more pockets of pus. So tomorrow 23 November 2020 he will go for his 4 spinal surgery. We are praying all goes well with this high risk procedure.
He has been in surgical ICU on a respirator for 2 weeks. An average day here costs $10 000. That does not include all the MRI’s , medication, specialist. During this time, he has caught pneumonia , has had terrible swelling and blisters on his arm’s which have burst and needs wound care.
We are a very long way from recovery .
Robert and his family could use all the financial support they can get. You’re generosity can help lighten the load, so he can focus on recovery and renew those vows sometime. I have know him for 36 years, he is a devoted husband and father that has always put his family first. A hard dedicated worker.
Please no matter how small we appreciate it all.
