I have known Rashelle for about 30 years. She is a hard worker and will do anything to care for her daughter.
I’ve known that Rashelle has been living with severe back pain ever since she was a teenager. She has always maintained two jobs. She has one main job and then she was a waitress or a bartender for 26 years. Working in the restaurant industry, aggravated her back but she always pulled through with great service to her customers. She had fun at her job and was smiling through the pain.
Fast forward to the present day. Rashelle and her surgeon decided that she would get spinal fusion surgery in January. She prepared for this by saving money to pay her rent and bills for January and February. She also had short term disability insurance and thought that she would be receiving a paycheck every week while she’s recovering. Rashelle‘s recovery is 3 to 4 months and no working. She’s not permitted to bend, lift or twist for 4 months. So even if she wanted to work at this time, she can’t.
Rashelle just learned that her disability insurance company denied her claim. The insurance company considered her necessary spine surgery as a pre-existing condition and will not provide funds for Rashelle at all. The insurance company’s “pre existing” clause is worded perfectly so she is unable to appeal their decision.
Last year, Rashelle started working in sales. She is committed to her job and loves what she does. She is waiting anxiously to get back to work and help support her team. During her recovery, she is not allowed to bend, lift or twist. This limits almost everything she can do. She uses a walker to assist her stability when walking. She’s anxious to become strong enough to leave that walker at home.
When I learned about her insurance company denying her claim, I wanted to provide a resource for her to receive help in paying her bills while she continues her recovery. I thought about the go fund me resource and created this out of pure love for my friend. Rashelle will appreciate anything sent her way. Thank you all for taking a minute to read this. Have a wonderful day!
