GO FUND ME: No Co-Digester Town of Lind

Hello! Our neighbors and concerned citizens have created this GoFundMe to assist with expenses related to the opposition of the Vanguard/BlackRock Anaerobic Co-Digester Proposal in the Town of Lind.

This industrial proposal has been quietly in the works for quite some time. Thankfully, our citizens became aware of the proposal as of September 2023 and have been able to shed light on what the approval of this project would really mean for the citizens of Lind and surrounding communities. Since then, we have been diligently working to inform and protect our small town and its unique natural resources, including the Walla Walla Creek and our historical artesian well located at the Lind Town Hall. Throughout this process, we have incurred fees for legal assistance, signage, mailings, social media, and more.

Here in Lind we greatly value our wetlands, groundwater, wildlife, air quality, and overall peaceful rural character. Per important research and other communities currently living near co-digesters, what we cherish is in jeopardy. This industrial co-digester proposal does not support our values - they need a rezone that will remove land from Farmland Preservation and into an industrial intensive zone, can discharge 41,000 gallons of industrial wastewater PER DAY into a Class 2 trout stream (Walla Walla Creek, which flows into the Wolf River & eventually Lake Michigan) and will deposit harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.

The proposed co-digester is NOT a manure-only facility. Vanguard states they can take "Virtually everything!", which could include industrial food waste, animal blood/bones, municipal sewage sludge, fats/oils/greases (FOG), and pharmaceutical waste. Processing toxic waste in an anaerobic co-digester to be spread on fields would potentially put our groundwater and wells at great risk for contamination.

This GoFundMe will aid us in moving forward with current resources and provide us with the funding needed to spread awareness on a larger scale as the impact of this proposal could reach far outside our community boundaries and have long term impacts on our natural resources such as water and air quality.

We urge you to take a look at the Town of Lind's Comprehensive Plan and ask yourself if this Anaerobic Co-Digester will align with all that is outlined there. This is not the legacy we want to leave for the Town of Lind and generations to come.
