No Evictions Emergency Fundraiser

Donation protected
On the 12th of June, Serco announced that they would begin a mass eviction of 300 people living in asylum accommodation. Immediately following this announcement, a movement of people came together to stand up for those affected. Since then, the campaign ‘No Evictions’ has made itself known to those responsible for carrying out this injustice. It has also provided essential support to people at risk of eviction. The campaign is only continuing to grow stronger.

Now, two months later, despite the public’s condemnation of their actions, Serco is still changing locks. Hundreds of displaced people will continue to be forced into an untenable position where they will be at risk of homelessness and associated harm and distress. This situation has ultimately arisen from a broken asylum system and the decisions of a Government whose apparent goal is to intimidate and neglect some of our most vulnerable.

There is a lot of vital work still being done. There are ongoing and essential actions to put more pressure on our leaders to take responsibility. There are countless other people waiting to be evicted that don’t have access to both the support of the campaign and other services. We need to continue to work to reach out to more people at risk.

‘No Evictions’ is a campaign comprising people from groups such as MORE (Migrants Organising for Rights and Empowerment), Unity Sisters, The Unity Centre and Living Rent, along with a number of individuals and current Serco tenants.

Follow the ‘No Evictions’ Facebook page to keep up to date and get involved with the actions.

Money raised will go mostly towards travel reimbursements to meetings and actions for anyone who needs them. This allows the campaign to be accessible to all. It also helps the campaign to be built around people in the asylum process. Funds will also go towards printing flyers and posters and covering the cost of tea, coffee and biscuits for meetings.
