No Mini-Hotels in Southern Shores!

Donation protected
Two brave Southern Shores homeowners who have taken on the big developer that is building mini-hotels on our oceanfront now -- at 98 and 134 Ocean Blvd. -- despite being warned by the town that it is building at its own risk because of pending litigation, would like your help with paying their legal expenses.

The homeowners are contesting the State of North Carolina's issuance of CAMA permits to the developer, SAGA Construction & Development, on the grounds that the 12-bedroom, 12-bathroom, 17-parking space, 24-person-septic-capacity mini-hotels -- each with a tiki bar, swimming pool, and 14-person home theater -- that SAGA wants to build are in violation of Southern Shores' land-use plan. The petitioners have engaged an expert environmental attorney from Durham to represent them in the litigation, which will be heard by a state administrative law judge, after a period of discovery.

Southern Shores is a seaside village of open spaces, low-density development, and single-family homes. It is a residential community, not a commercial one.

SAGA's mini-hotels are destructive of Southern Shores' longtime character and identity: They will bring crowds to our uncrowded beaches and more traffic congestion and safety hazards to our roads.  Both the Town Planning Board and Town Council are opposed to such mini-hotels, and are working to prevent future similar structures from being built in town, but they did not act soon enough to prevent the two projected for 98 and 134 Ocean Blvd.

Any money you donate will go directly to paying legal fees, which the two homeowners cannot handle alone. They are already receiving money from an angel, but they need the support of the greater Southern Shores community -- who will benefit from their litigation if they are successful in having SAGA's CAMA permits rescinded and its construction torn down.

Please check out the website, nominihotels.com, for more information.

The two homeowners would be extremely grateful for your financial support. No donation is too small. In contributing to this campaign, you would not only be helping to preserve Southern Shores, you would be helping these homeowners to fight the good fight--for the sake of all.

Thank you so much!
