No More Worries for Wade
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Karin Brookins Taylor, and I am hoping to raise funds for my younger brother Wade Brookins who is 61, to help ease some of the financial stress due to his illness. In January of this year, Wade became ill with Covid and was hospitalized. This began a difficult six months of being in and out of the hospital and doctor's offices as he was not getting better. When he was hospitalized this past May, his kidneys were functioning at 11%. After 15 days, we finally learned the culprit was Multiple Myeloma (a type of blood cancer). He was told he would need to start dialysis three times weekly and intensive Chemotherapy to put the cancer in remission. Wade had to quit his job as he was too ill to work. Before this illness, Wade had been exceptionally healthy. His job provided 75% of his and his wife's income. Unbelievably his wife 0f 36 years, Ann, was also hospitalized earlier this month after suffering a heart attack. If and when the cancer is in remission, he will need to travel to Denver from his home in El Paso, Texas, to obtain a bone marrow transplant, as these procedures are not performed here at home.
Wade grew up on the westside of El Paso and attended Western Hills Elementary School and Morehead Middle School. He graduated from Coronado High School in 1980. Wade has worked as an auto mechanic here in El Paso for 38 years, at the Chevron on Mesa & Resler, then the Texaco on Balboa and Mesa and finally at Crawford/Casa Buick GMC for the last 17 years. So if you lived on the west side of El Paso, there is a good chance he has worked on your vehicle at some point-he has certainly helped all his friends and family. Wade has two adult sons and two grandchildren, Liam and Bentley. Liam is pictured here with him.
Wade will not ask for himself, so I am asking for him. Medical expenses are overwhelming. Funds are needed for living expenses at home and the trip to Denver for a stem cell/bone marrow transplant. He will be hospitalized for 3 to 4 weeks. Without this, the outlook for my brother is grim, and this hard-working, gentle soul deserves a chance.
We need your help. Please help Wade fight this disease and be able to watch his grandchildren grow and thrive. We do not want Wade to worry about his finances but focus on getting well. We appreciate your support, and please feel free to share this story.
God bless you!!
