No New Killingly Power Plant!
Donation protected
Climate change is upon us! The State of CT under Governor Lamont has required the Department of Energy & Environmental Protection to seek strategies necessary to meet the greenhouse gas emissions standards by 2040. That’s 10 years earlier than the federal requirements! So WHY did the Connecticut Siting Council approve a new fossil fuel power plant in Killingly, CT?
Not Another Power Plant (NAPP) is a grassroots organization based in Killingly CT. Our group of concerned citizens has been fighting the proposed Killingly Energy Center (KEC) and its developer, Florida based NTE, since 2016. On August 29, 2019, NAPP appealed the CT Siting Council decision in favor of KEC/NTE. NAPP is seeking funds to sustain this appeal.
NAPP’s name comes from the fact that KEC is approved to be built at a location less than half a mile from an existing natural gas fired 750 mw power plant, Lake Road Generating. Members of NAPP are very concerned by the millions of tons of carbon dioxide and methane gases that will be released by KEC for a 30 year period, in addition to the existing emissions from Lake Road Generating. The surrounding area has also been impacted by the nearby Frito Lay and asphalt plants. These industrial companies are affecting the air quality not only in the Killingly area, part of The Last Green Valley, but across the entire State of Connecticut, parts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
We are starting this GoFundMe page with the encouragement of many avid environmentalists who know that it’s time to stop building fossil fuel plants and start investing in sustainable renewable energy. Please help this local citizen’s group as we put up a strong fight and appeal the Ct Siting Council’s decision to approve this 650 mw fracked gas, carbon and methane emitting power plant. All donations received will be used to fund our appeal of the CT Siting Council decision to allow this power plant. Funds collected will be directly deposited into the NAPP account which is managed by our good friend and member Deborah Kirkconnell.
A thoughful comment from a recent donor, "I breathe this air, and I live on this planet. No more fossil fuels!"
We need help from this community to get the word out, NO NEW KILLINGLY POWER PLANT! Please share this GoFundMe link www.gofundme.com/no-new-killingly-power-plant
