Hi all, my name is Mark Spain.... so about 72 hrs ago I died (I was 'released' from my hospital bed about 24 hrs ago and I mean 'released') , luckily, a smack up the side of the head brought me back (3x's apparently), no ambulance -too far out, we was in the slowest taxi (the farmer from next door) in Thailand, lol, I can remember thinking ' I'm gonna die in this old jalopy, because the driver thinks 40mpg is going fast & now we're stuck at a red light!' Once in Surin hospital, my case wasn't taken too seriously, because - I hadn't arrived in an ambulance! it took me nearly 'going' again to get things taken for the seriousness that my condition was, which was diagnosed as: 'Mid LAD had 100% Stenosis' (as you can see in the before & after op pictures) or in laymen's terms,1 of the 3 arteries of my heart had no blood flowing through it, hence - heart attack. So I have had 2 more stents put in place in addition to the two I had fitted about 5 years (so the 2 smaller arteries both have stents in them, and the surgeon has assured me my heart's main artery has no sign of 'disease' at all - phew!) ago and I'm on the mend and will be for the next few months, so now here's the shitty part, as my family and a few friends know, I plan/planned to return to the UK for the foreseeable future at the end of this month and had enough money for the travel/flights etc and a deposit+ the 1st months' rent for an apartment/flat in the UK, which took everything, and some, to accumulate, so yesterday lunch time the surgeon said I could home, great I thought, and then the nurse handed me the bill (see pic's) for..... 162,000 Thai Baht or about £4000, 4k - not much for your life is it? but it's a massive amount to someone who barely has £1500 ish to his name that is/was what I'd got together to get me home and a home, they (the hospital staff) would not 'release' me from my bed until I paid some of the bill, £1000 (25%) (the remaining 3k to be paid monthly over the next year) which I've paid (which to fair to the hospital/staff is the right thing to do, they had just saved my life)- I really didn't want to go from a hospital bed to a prison bed - so this has left me 'Up shit creek without a paddle' (or a canoe even) I have enough left for the flight, no more, I don't even own a coat, which will make stepping out into the UK's brisk air, errr, interesting, so I'm appealing to you all, if you can spare me any money, any at all, please do, to help me out for the next month or so, I could really, really do with the help (I know some will think 'Why no insurance?' simple, because of my age, having had a heart attack before, the covid hikes in insurance premiums etc, I would of spent more than 4k and as anyone knows who has dealt with insurance companies, there is no guarantee they would pay out on a claim and I would still of had to pay the hospital up front and hope the insurance company paid me back) again everyone if you can spare anything, anything at all, please, from the bottom of my mended heart, do help, sincere regards, Mark.
