No Tits, Sherlock: top surgery fund

I've been dealing with gender dysphoria for about twenty years now, pretty much since puberty. If you've never experienced gender dysphoria, it can be hard to describe (it's also different for everyone). For me, at its worst, it's a loathing and disgust that centers on my chest. It feeds into my depressive tendencies and anxiety, erodes my self-esteem, and adds a layer of "ugh" onto normal things like exercising or buying clothes.

My dysphoria got particularly strong this past winter, and I finally decided that 2018 was going to be the year. I had insurance, I have the support, and I have the nearly paralyzing fear that surgery will be harder to access under the Trump administration. Last month, I finally got my surgery date, set for December. I am so damn excited.

My health insurance has tentatively approved me for a double mastectomy (fingers crossed they won't walk it back), which has brought the price of the surgery from about $11,500 to $7,500, including travel back and forth to Michigan where I'll be having it done and recovering, meds, follow-ups, etc. I've managed to save just over half of that, which means I've got 4 months to come up with the rest.

What this fundraiser will go towards:
Surgery: $6825
Travel costs to Michigan and back: $350
Co-pays for pre/post-op appointments: $400

I'm setting the fundraiser for $1500 because it's the bare minimum I need to avoid going into debt. Exceeding $1500 means I might have some savings left over.
