We are a small independent group of people who live in the Outer Hebrides on the beautiful Isle of Lewis and vehemently oppose the following:

A large Canadian company called Northland Power has proposed building an industrial scale wind farm virtually right down the scenic west coast of the island within 5km (3 miles) of the shore.

They are proposing to site 66 turbines over 380m tall which is the height to the top floor of the Empire State Building in New York.

Not only are the largest turbines ever built, they would also be so close to shore that they would totally dominate the skyline. At night instead of dark skies, milky way and Northern Lights the people of the west coast would see nothing but the glowing red aviation lights of these monstrous turbines.

The sea along the west coast of Lewis is home to a variety of mammals such as dolphins, seals, basking sharks and even Orca's have been spotted, as well as sea eagles, golden eagles along with many other species of migratory sea birds who would be caught up in the wind farm.

Add to that the devastation which would be wreaked on the marine life during construction of the farm, and you will see it is totally unacceptable to us.

This wind farm will destroy businesses, tourism, communities and a way of life which has survived on these islands for hundreds of years.

We do not need this wind farm as Scotland already generates 75% more power than it ever uses, proving it's all about the money.

Any funds we raise will go towards fighting this corporate greed and profiteering.
