Get Noah to America for Tourettes treatment
Donation protected
Hi, im Rani. A mum to 3 Boys. Im fundraising for my middle Son to get over to Boston Childrens Hospital to seek treatment for his Tourette Syndrome.
Noah is 10 years old and suffers from both complex motor and complex vocal tics. He first started experiencing tics at age 5 and was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at age 7.
Noahs tics occur on a daily basis and today he cant go more than 2 minutes without some form of tic. Noah has started to experience tics in his sleep and a walking tic which is becoming very dangerous as he crosses roads.
The last 12 months have been full on with bullying issues in school and even outside of school and recently an OCD diagnosis.
Noahs tics and compulsions control his life every single day but despite this Noah pushes through and strives to be the best he can be. He currently is prescribed 2 fairly hard medications which half hour after taking completely zonks him out.
Noahs release and happy place is his basketball. He first picked up a ball and joined a social team at the age of 4. From there he has continued to develop his game and always has a ball in his hand.
He trialled and was picked to represent his club in the Junior Premier League this season and plays up an age group in the social competition leading the board with the highest average points.
His tics appear on court but he has a way of making them work to his advantage and never lets them affect his game.
Basketball is his life, his passion and his dream.
Australia offers very little support for Tourettes, its not even recognised by the NDIS but is an incredibly debilitating, life controlling condition.
Noah says he wakes up sad every day knowing what lays ahead for him, he is just exhausted and in pain from certain motor tics.
A number of American Childrens hospitals have clinics attached to them dedicated to Tourettes and OCD. They offer specialised scanning to find the part of the brain affected the most amd offer a range of different treatments. I have been in touch with Boston and they are more than happy to take Noahs case on but as you can imagine this comes with a large price tag. One beyond my reach. Noah and I would really appreciate any donation to start the journey of hope and relief.
Thanks so much and for those interested you can follow Noah on Facebook under 'Backing Noah'
