Noah Phelps and Family

Jamie and Sarah Phelps’ son, Noah Trust Phelps was born on May 28 2018 via C-Section with a rare condition known as an omphalocele.  The defect caused his internal organs to develop in a sack outside of the abdominal wall.  Sarah gave birth to Noah in Atlanta so that Noah could be treated at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.  He spent two months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit before being allowed to go home.  The Phelps live in Valdosta Georgia which is a three and a half hour drive to the hospital.  Due to the commute, the Phelps stayed up there the entire time at the Ronald McDonald House.  Noah is 7 months old now and has spent the majority of that time in and out of the intensive care unit at Children’s Healthcare.  He is currently in the hospital at Children’s recovering from tracheostomy surgery.  Another symptom of the rare condition is underdeveloped lungs.  The trach will allow Jamie and Sarah to bring Noah home on the ventilator to provide him breathing support until his lungs develop enough to breathe on his own.  Both Jamie and Sarah will spend a month and a half in Atlanta training on how to properly care for a child who is on a ventilator before being allowed to bring him home.

A little backstory.  Noah is Jamie and Sarah’s third son.  They have a three year old name Jacob who is a happy, healthy three year old boy.  They lost their second son Able at 30 weeks due to a birth defect just one year before Noah’s birth.  Noah’s name comes from the biblical story of Noah’s Ark.  The term given to the child born after a still birth is “rainbow baby” because it signifies the sun coming out after the rain.  Noah’s middle name “Trust” reminds us to trust in God to give us strength to endure whatever trials lie ahead.  The Phelps are truly grateful for your prayers and support during this difficult time
