A run for Noah Dowie

Donation protected
Noah is a local Warrnambool boy, aged 4 years old. At the age of 1, Noah was diagnosed with Diamond Blackfan Anemia (DBA), which is incredibly rare and for which there is currently no cure. DBA is a disorder that primarily affects the bone marrow. Bone marrow produces new blood cells. In DBA, the bone marrow malfunctions and fails to make enough red blood cells, which carry oxygen to the body's tissues.

For Noah and his family, the past 3 years have involved countless trips to hospitals and specialists (Melb) , frequent blood transfusions, copious amounts of steroids (which is Noah's treatment) with which comes nasty side effects including extreme sleeplessness, tests, bone marrow biopsies, medications, illnesses and infections, etc, etc. And with all of this comes unimaginable and extreme stress and worry for Noah's parents, Jet and Kristy.

Very recently things have become more complicated for the Dowie family as Noah now has stiffening of his heart muscle, and as a result he has problems with filling his heart. This is separate to Noah's DBA condition. Either of these conditions alone would be a huge battle but  together it is extremely difficult. Treatment and the way forward given the new condition are still being determined.

This year, Kristy and Jet would like to take Noah to America  in July to “camp sunshine” which is ran every 2 years for DBA families. They have submitted their application and hope to be selected shortly to attend. This is something they have wanted to do for some time now. There they will spend the week with Doctors specialising in DBA. This will be invaluable  learning for the Dowie family. They will also be able to meet other families from around the world who are also living with DBA.

I want to assist this little family on their difficult journey and I hope that you will too. I will be running (or attempting to run) a half marathon (my first one) in approx 1 months time and raising funds to assist the Dowie family in getting  their little Noah to America and to the DBA camp in July.

If you are able to do so, please donate. All donations (big or small) are welcome. Every little bit helps and is one less stress on this families plate. Please also share the link. Lets do what we can to hep out. Much appreciated, Bridgid.
