Noblesville's First National Toboggan Team

This project has everything: a national sports championship, community-building, and traditional arts. Plus the chance for you to join in.

Let's start where the story begins. Three years ago I, Geoff Davis, organized a community toboggan build at the library where I was artist-in-residence. A hundred people joined in, assisting six craftspeople, to create two traditional American toboggans. That day a dream was born: to design and build a toboggan and then represent my Indiana community -- Noblesville, Indiana -- at the U.S. Toboggan National Championships in Camden, Maine.

This fall, four friends (Miles, Joe, Ken, and Geoff) have come together to make this unlikely dream a reality. We’ve formed a team, the Hoosier Hotshots, for the National Championships Feb. 11-13.

The momentum continues to build. The talented team of Noblesville-based and internationally recognized filmmakers at 12 Stars Media, will now be producing a short film – and they even plan to join us in Maine.

This is where you come in. We want to continue to expand the number of people involved more and more – to build community, showcase traditional arts, and give many others a chance to participate.

As a career educator I (Geoff) know that the more folks who are engaged, the richer the experience is for everyone. We are inviting you to join us in this adventure!

There are four ways that you can help.

1) Funds raised will first be used to support a community build day where you help us build the toboggan and learn about traditional arts. Remaining funds will support costs associated with attending the event.

Here’s how we’ll thank you for your gift:
$10 - We will thank you in social media.
$50 - You will receive a team t-shirt designed by a local artist.
$100 - You will receive a signed photo of the team.
$250 - You will be invited to a private toboggan ride at Forest Park. (Pending good snowfall)
$500 - You will receive recognition as a build day sponsor. (Two Remaining Available)
$1000 and above - You will credited as associate producer for the film. (One Remaining Available)

All sponsors will be invited to public screening and Q and A about the film.

Donors at each level will also receive the benefits of all of the previous levels.

2) Participate in the Community Build on Saturday, January 29 at the conference room behind NobleMade at 839 Conner Street from 9:00 am until about 4:00 pm. Participants will be welcomed to pick up tools, help build and (maybe) be in the film.

3) Share. The most difficult part of any community project is getting the word out to the folks who may be interested. Please do your part to support our project and share on your social media platforms. Follow our Instagram account at gbdavisfolkart and liberally use the hashtag #noblesvillebuildsatoboggan
