Noke Koi Tribe – "Shono Sheni" Healing Center

Donation protected
The Noke Koï, popularly known as Katukina, belong to the Pano linguistic family. Today there are approximately 1,154 individuals (Siasi/Sesai, 2014) living in two indigenous lands located in the state of Acre: the T.I. (Terra Indigena / indigenous lands) Campinas/Katukina and the T.I. Rio Gregório. The T.I. where we will build this project is located on the banks of the Río Gregório, Municipality of Tarauacá.  Currently the Noke Koï people of Rio Gregório do not have a common space, a centre for meetings and ceremonies. The Vinõya Healing Village Space intends to fill this need.

This space will then be built in the Noke Koi Vinõya Indigenous Village.

We want to restore and strengthen the balance with the forest, from the space of living, meeting and celebration, thanks to the reconquest of healing practices and culture, the river and the forest.  This funding request is for the construction of the Noke Koi Vinõya Village Healing Centre.  This project was born with the intention of strengthening the Noke Koi people of Rio Gregório, since this Centre built in the Vinõya Village also has the objective of becoming a centre for meetings between the indigenous leaders of the peoples of this state. It is intended, from this base, to create a unique event where the various peoples can meet, showing and presenting their culture, creating a space for debate and dialogue between the leaders, thus strengthening the indigenous movement in Acre. It is a visionary project, created from the visions of the Romeya Kamarati, conceived and written by Mayá Noke Koï (Dviane Neves).  It is intended to begin construction this present year 2022 and conclude at the end before November of the same year.

About the construction

The construction will be made of wood and straw, thus maintaining the most traditional architectural design, we will build a Cupichawa (meeting and ceremony centre) 20x20m in diameter, an accommodation with capacity for 30 people, a traditional kitchen and dry toilets. It is a project that is initially small but aims for a large and inclusive impact, a place where Acre indigenous leaders can meet, a space for dialogue and debate about the protection of the forest and territories. It is a call to all those who wish to be at the service of a greater purpose, not individual but collective, in the Brazilian Amazon. This Funding has the purpose of building the vision of our Romeya.

What do we want?

We need financial support to remove the straws, pay labor services of sawyers, transport of straws, payment of labor of Noke Koï families involved in the collection, loading and sewing of straws made by Noke Koï women in the traditional way, costs of fuel, as detailed in the budget below for this construction and purchase of materials.  The construction of this space in the pattern imagined and idealized by the Romeya Kamarati and the activist for indigenous rights, Maya Noke Koï (Dviane Neves), are only a first step in this vision that seeks the strengthening and union of the Forest Peoples of the Acre Amazon. The construction of the space is the foundation on which a much larger project is based, which involves social, cultural and economic practices that constitute the future perspective for new generations of Noke Koï.

How will the construction occur?

The timeline of this project is organised for two months of work. In this first phase, once the necessary financial resources have been received, we will evaluate the amount of expenses described in the budget below. Once the financial resources are received, the construction of the lodging will begin, followed by the construction of the Cupichawa of 20x20mm, kitchen and dry toilets. It is intended in the future to involve all space in an agroforestry, water dam (well) and chicken farms, for the guarantee of food security.

About Budget and Financing:

The budgeted amount for this project is 9500 Euros (descriptive budget attached) to cover all construction costs, which includes purchase of materials, removal of the straws for the roofs, labor expenses and fuel expenses for the machines used in this construction.
