Nokomis Learning Center, a Native American cultural center located in Okemos, Michigan, needs your financial help. As a culturally and historically unique organization, dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the Anishinaabe culture, Nokomis is unfortunately facing the possibility of closing before the year's end. Like many other (501) (c) (3) non-profit organizations struggling due to difficult financial times, Nokomis needs help to continue to provide services for the local community and for the entire state of Michigan.
For nearly thirty years, Nokomis has provided educational tours and events for children, adults, veterans, seniors, and at-risk youth as well as teaching the indigenous language. Located just a few miles from the State Capital, Nokomis has served as a hub for the Michigan Indigenous community, hosting events ranging from a fundraising dinner/auction for native university students, to a seminar on the sports mascots issue and recently serving as a gathering spot for Standing Rock Water Protectors from all over the nation attending a rally at our State Capitol.
We at Nokomis Learning Center believe that it is essential for all people to have an appreciation for indigenous culture, to hear the stories of the Anishinaabe people, to understand treaty rights and the leadership roles that Native American tribes play in environmental protection. Now, more than ever, it is important for the world to hear indigenous voices.
Nokomis is in immediate need of $24,000 to maintain our operating costs and to continue to provide essential educational and supportive services.
Your donation is tax deductible! Chi miigwech/thank you very much for your support!
