Nolaa’s Second Chance

Donation protected
Well we have some not so good news. Nolaa’s is Closed .. and we don’t know for how long. Update now to a month.

Over the Easter Weekend we suffered a flood from a broken toilet hose that ran freely overnight for 9 hours. To say that I am broken is insufficient. To say that I am frustrated with God and run of luck is extremely fair. I am so sad for my staff, their income, their responsibilities, my responsibilities, my small business suppliers, my neighbours on either side of Nolaa’s - who suffered as well.

I am saddened for my family who has the task and burden of cleaning up my tears, witnessing my anger and eating my pain. They have shown up for me and forced me to accept this and open up to all of you.

But what about all of you? What about all of you that depend on Nolaa’s to help you with your medical journeys? Your diets? Your preferences? What about the promise I made to always be here for you?

Oddly enough, I was waiting to post after this long weekend that this past January, while on a very personal trip to Thailand, I suffered a 10 minute grand-mal seizure that landed me in a Chiang Mai hospital, mostly alone and away from any idea of comfort or peace of mind. I have no idea why it happened and still may never know. Eventually back in Canada, I had my license medically suspended and have been relying on staff and Uber to get me back and forth to Nolaa’s. I still have no idea what is wrong.

To get back to the flood, I want to be as vulnerable and open with you as possible because for those of you that know me and love me - the real me - you know that I am hurting so bad right now. You know that I am on my knees, literally crying and begging for mercy. I’m exhausted. I’ve had enough of asking why.

I do not know when I can reopen. We are looking at weeks right now. Today we are going through our fridges, making sure my staff fills their fridge’s and then donating all of our perishables to several places of need in the City.

I will use any donated funds for Uber rides to and from the shop, immediate staff wages, immediate produce bills, immediate lease, immediate replacement of appliances - so that at least we can do takeout.

We DO have insurance - we are unsure of exactly what’s covered at this point.

For those of you that do not know the story and journey of Nolaa’s, please find us on

Love you all, Sorry, Mel ❤️
