Nome Alaska's Track and Field Team
Donation protected
I am Ryan Fox, and I’m running 350 miles across Alaska along the Iditarod Trail this winter to raise funds for Nome Alaska's first ever Track and field team. Following the end of a successful and large cross country season this fall, our student athletes and parents expressed interest in developing a track and field team to grow our program for the future.
Currently, Bethel is the only other town in all of Western Alaska to fund a spring track team that competes in the ASAA season against road system teams. The wonderful thing about track and field is the event options that bring out a wide range of kids that may otherwise never have an opportunity to compete.
We have been fortunate to already receive approval from our Athletics Director and Principal to make this program happen. However, because the creation of this student activity is happening mid year, there are a lot of funds that need be drawn from outside groups. True, we do not have an actual track in Nome (the nearest one is 500 + miles away), However, with the right funding we can acquire many of the essential items needed for our team to train for events in the Anchorage area meets this Spring including:
Starting Blocks for sprinting events
A set of Discuss for throwing events
A set of Shot puts for throwing events
A set of hurdles for our athletes to practice with
Long Jump / Triple Jump Materials
Relay Batons
Any donation will help us get another foot forward towards making this team a reality.
