Nomini Hall Slave Legacy Project Fundraiser

After the death of his wife, Frances Ann Tasker Carter, in 1787, Robert Carter III ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Carter_III) began the process to free 511 enslaved Africans that he inherited from his father, Robert Carter II, and grandfather, Robert "King" Carter from his Nomini Hall plantation estate in Westmoreland County, Virginia. By a “Deed of Gift” filed with the county courts on September 5, 1791, he began the gradual process of manumitting the enslaved Africans that lived on the 18 plantations he owned, which spanned 15,462 acres.
This is the largest known manumission of enslaved people in North America prior to the American Civil War and the largest number ever manumitted by an individual person in American History. This historic event is unknown by many as Robert Carter III was virtually stricken from history books despite being the wealthiest man in the colonies at that time. His cohorts of the time are all well known as the Founding Fathers of our country.
The Nomini Hall Slave Legacy Project aims to connect the present-day descendants of those that were freed by the Deed of Gift set in motion by Robert Carter III in 1791. It is the goal of the project to also bring awareness of this historic event to the general public and be a resource to educators. This work is very important to me because I descend from three families manumitted by the Deed of Gift.
I have been personally funding this project myself for the last 8 years but since my recent spinal surgery, I am no longer able to finance things by myself. Anything you give would really help the further project and allow me to travel to speak and share this history. I really appreciate your support.
