It is with the most heart-wrenching regret that we mourn Norbert's passing this week. After suffering extensive injuries in a tragic car accident on Monday November 11, Norbert greatly fought for his life. Unfortunately, the doctors pronounced him deceased the morning of November 13, 2019, surrounded by family and friends, at the Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas, USA.
This is undoubtedly a great loss to any and all people who knew him, his kind heart and his genuine love for people. Norbert was an exceptional man of God, a very hardworking young Engineer, and the most delightful soul most of us have ever had the chance to meet in this life. After graduating with honors from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) in 2017, he moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma which is where he was living until the time of his death. Outside of work, he loved traveling and spending time with his friends and family.
Norbert was 17 days shy of turning 25. He is preceded in death by his mother and, more recently, his father. He is survived by his older sister and his four brothers, who all live in Kigali, Rwanda. Please keep his family in your prayers so they can find comfort in God, each other and the priceless memories they shared with him. Arrangements for his repatriation are being made with the Penwell-Gabel funeral home in Topeka, Kansas and the Embassy of Rwanda in Washington, D.C. Any financial donations, big or small, will make a huge difference, as hospital bills, funeral home and repatriation and travel costs are all coming as a burden of their own. My name is Olivier Kwizera. I am a recent graduate from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. I have known Norbert since 2007, and he was my best friend, role model, and he meant to me much more than I can put in words. Norbert's sister (Denyse Tumugire) and brother-in-law (Norbert Gatera) are making plans to fly to the US soon to finalize all legal aspects concerning Norbert's passing. I have been given permission by the family to sign papers at the Penwell-Gabel funeral home, and I will deliver the funds raised here to the family. When Denyse gets here, I will withdraw the donations and transfer them to their family account.
