Norbert's Medical Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Our hearts are broken for our little dude and what he is currently going through. We are so worried for him and hope he can pull through this tragic series of events. Friends have asked about how they can help and if we had a fund set up so I decided to go ahead and create this fundraiser to support our first born and his recovery costs. Now onto what caused all this...

On Thursday December 14th, our sweet little Norbert was attacked by another dog. Initially, the veterinarian did x-rays and found bruising on his lungs as well as fluid around his lungs (pleural effusion). He was having trouble breathing and the fluid was drained and put on medication. Only a few hours after leaving the vet, he started having more serious breathing problems and was rushed into the emergency vet where they found his trachea was crushed and torn. Air was leaking from his trachea causing him to wheeze and strain to breathe. Because of the severity of his injuries, Sean took Norbert directly from the emergency veterinarians office in Arcata to Medford, Oregon to the critical care specialist hospital.

The critical care veterinarian was luckily able to get Norbert stabilized with meds and kept him on oxygen for the first couple nights to help him breathe; however, he developed a complication of traumatic pancreatitis which filled his abdomen with fluid, requiring further care. Yesterday, he had a procedure to place a drain in his abdomen to remove the fluid as well as a feeding tube placed to give him much needed nutrients to heal.

If all goes well and he heals from this pancreatitis, we can expect him to stay hospitalized there for another few days before he can come home. Once he has come home, he will require further care to manage his pancreatitis and follow-up exams for x-rays to assess for any fluids building back up in his chest and abdominal cavity.

This has been a very tough time for our family - physically, emotionally, and financially. At this point, we have incurred $16,000 of medical costs. As many of you know, we just had our first human child weeks ago so any monetary support would be appreciated.

Please keep him in your thoughts! We will keep you all updated on his recovery progress. <3
