Norbury High School - Choir Tour 2024

We are the Norbury High School Show Choir (a comprehensive secondary state school in Croydon) and we need your help please!
We are hoping to run a Choir Mini-Tour to Birmingham in March 2024, where we will perform a public concert and visit Cadbury World and Alton Towers too. At the moment it is all we can afford but, nevertheless, any funds that we can raise towards our tour can help to create a wonderful experience for the children in our choir.
Our amazing, award-winning choir is fully inclusive and the children range from Year 7 to 13. We sing a wide range of music and would absolutely love to enable the pupils currently at school to experience the wonder of a Choir Tour. The Performing Arts in schools are being pushed out so we must fight to reverse the effects of a packed curriculum where creativity is being overlooked and talented musicians are facing a lack of opportunities.
In years gone by we would run a whole school musical and a Choir Tour in alternating years but, since Brexit and the pandemic, both of these opportunities have not been possible. Costs have more than doubled and, for the majority of our parents, they just do not have the available funds to be able to support us as far as they would want to.
Mrs Stevens, our Choir Director, has run the choirs at Norbury High for the past 26 years and run successful Choir Tours to wonderful places like Disneyland Paris, Germany, Belgium, and Barcelona, and most recently to Amsterdam in 2019. As such, most of the children in the current choir have not had the same opportunities as the students that have gone before them have had. Many of our current group missed out on Year 6 excursions too - many have never even been away from home!
School trips like these are where happy memories are made and life experiences built. Anyone who knows Mrs Stevens will know just how passionately she believes that all children should be able to experience this - not only the elite and privileged. These children dedicate so much time and energy into the school choir - it would be amazing to be able to pay them back with a memory of school they will treasure!
The trip will cost each pupil £225, so the whole trip £9900! Ideally we hope to raise the funds to pay for the whole trip, but ANY money we can raise will offset the cost per pupil and help all of our parents to afford the trip. Any money over and above our target will be put straight towards our future tours.
Please contact Mrs Stevens via Norbury High School for Girls if you want to know anything more about us, or offer us opportunities to perform to fund-raise locally (we can't afford coaches any more sadly)... we will always be interested! If you are a local business that would like to donate a prize/gift to our other fund-raising efforts...that would be AMAZING too!
Thank you for any help you are able to give us! A little, altogether, can take our choir such a long way and make memories for a lifetime.
with love from the Norbury High School Show Choir
and Emma Stevens (Choir Director)
