Norfolk Island Girl Guide needs assistance
Donation protected
The Norfolk Island Girl Guides and Brownies Association was formed on Norfolk Island in 1928 and has been continuous in Norfolk Island, except during WWII. The Norfolk Island Girl Guide Hall was built in 1984 on its current site after the Norfolk Island Public School (as it then was) reclaimed the old Hall for use by the school (now the library). In mid-June 2022 the Hall was severely water damage due to a hot water pipe bursting in the kitchen, flooding the whole area including the kitchen and storage rooms inside the Hall. As a result of this, all flooring throughout the building was completely damaged and must now be replaced. Along with this devastating water damage, the kitchen cupboards (which were only replaced in 2010 with the help of a community grant)and other free-standing storage cupboards were also damaged and will require replacement to become safe and fully useable again.
When we made a claim on the insurance policy held over the Hall, we regrettably found out that the Hall had been hugely under insured. Our insurance claim process was finally processed on the 26th April 2023, with our final pay out from the insurance company falling heavily short. We are now asking for assistance and support from others that might be able to support us in raising the extra funds needed for the replacement.
The Guide Hall is used by many groups and other functions and fundraisers at times. The Hall is also set up for use in any emergency management purposes. The Norfolk Island Girl Guide Association is a not-for-profit organisation. We would normally rely on donations made from people using the Hall to help with maintenance costs, but this has been unable to happen since the damage and we have therefore lost this financial assistance.
The Girl Guides’ mission is to empower girls and young women to become confident, self-respecting, responsible community members.
We provide girls with opportunities to grow, learn and have fun in relevant and meaningful ways. We provide a foundation for girls and young women to be the best that they can be and harness their individual potential to make a difference. We focus on personal character building on the values of respect and leadership qualities. Guiding is about friendship, fun, adventure, and personal growth.
From past, present, and future Brownies, Guides and Leaders, we thank you for your support and look forward to keeping this organisation running on Norfolk Island.
Yours in Guiding
