Norma's Battle with Leukemia (B-ALL)

Late last week while driving from Montana to Minnesota for her grandmother's funeral, Kristin received the phone call that every parent fears. She was informed that her 6-year-old daughter, Norma, was diagnosed with leukemia. They were told they needed to get to the hospital immediately to begin treatment. Thanks to Kristin's relentless advocacy for her daughter, she was able to discover what had been causing Norma so much pain lately.

After running endless tests, a bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture, and more, sweet Norma began her chemotherapy treatments at Essentia Health-Fargo on Monday 6/13. It hasn't been an easy beginning to treatment, however. She has required blood and platelet transfusions, which have improved her work of breathing dramatically. She has spiked multiple fevers and is also on antibiotics. She is finally in better spirits, giggling and acting like her sassy self.

Norma misses her brothers and sisters dearly. She is 1 of 6 siblings and loves living on her family farm. Kristin will be staying with Norma in Fargo while she undergoes treatment. Chris, Norma's dad, will be home with the rest of the kids and maintaining the farm in Montana. Norma is a fighter, and she will beat this. This is only the beginning, and there is no way to predict what financial burden lies ahead for this family who would literally give the clothes off their backs and the food in their fridge to help anyone.
