North Harford MD Jam Club

Hi, my name is George Michael Curry, an 8th grade Social Studies teacher and avid music fan. Music is a regular part of my classroom. Some rock and roll on a Monday morning to get the blood going or some jazz in the background during a quiz. It has also been a platform to connect and build relationships with my students. We talk about music including playing music all the time, especially those just starting to play. Most have a common frustration, being able to meet with others like them to learn, practice, or jam a little.I'm a sucker for my students and they are telling me they need something...

So this fall, I will be starting the North Harford Middle School Jam Club. It will be for students with some of the basics, or just starting, maybe have never had the chance to experiment with new instruments. It will be an opportunity to practice and sample different types of music. We will talk about key figures in music and history. Local musicians will come and work with the students and share their experiences. Most importantly, it provides a place for kids with an intrest in music to get off of the cell phone and make music and friendships.

Unfortunately, even beat-up, used knock-offs can be pricey. I do not want a student to miss an opportunity to experience music and make new friends because there is not an instrument to play. I am raising money to purchase a variety of instruments and needed accessories to help make this club possible.

We all have a soundtrack of our life, let's kelp some kids start to make their's.
