Cycling Without Age - Sorrento
Donation protected
Too often when our senior citizens become confined to their own homes or reside in Care Homes, they lack the freedom to get outdoors and explore the world around them.
My goal is to purchase a specially designed trishaw so that I can offer free bike rides to local nursing home residents and those who
are lesser abled.. I plan to cycle along the wide cycle paths of West Coast Drive, between North Beach and Mullaloo. What better way to explore the beautiful Perth coastline, and get seniors to reconnect with nature and the community.
Sponsorship is encouraged. Local business logos can be fixed to my trike, aiding the promotion of your business.
The cost to get started includes the Danish made trike, helmets, reflective vests with Logo, rugs and scarves, the cost of building the bike enclosure and insurance as well as the cost of the launch.
Cycling Without Age
Cycling Without Age is a movement started in 2012 by Ole Kassow. Ole wanted to help the elderly get back on their bicycles, but he had to find a solution to their limited mobility. The answer was a trishaw and he started offering free bike rides to the local nursing home residents.
There are now more than 300 chapters across 29 countries and 3,000 volunteers that take people out on bike rides for those who cannot ride bikes anymore. It is my aim to start the Western Australian chapter of this initiative.
There are stories of seniors improving not only their mental health but also their physical state from the renewed sense of freedom, friendship and fun through the program.
About the trishaws
The trishaws come equipped with an electric assist motor which will help me pedal up hills, as well as a weather hood and rain and wind proof blanket to keep my passengers comfortable and warm. The trishaws will accommodate 1-2 passengers.
