Nova Arts College Refurbishment.

Nova Arts is a Performing Arts College located in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The facility caters for post-16 students who study for a BTEC Extended Diploma in performing arts as a pathway to higher education and industry.

Nova Arts was created to fill a provision gap identified by our dancers. There is no high-level, professional performance training with links to higher education and the industry available to them locally. Our Barnsley building offered a solution. Abandoned for 20 years, the 4-story building had the potential to grow our organisation and the impact we provided to the community.

We started by building activity park number 2, featuring our bespoke parkour park, sprung floor, and dance studio. This time, we added a trampoline park to increase the activity opportunities. After a year and a successful Sport England build, we were able to build out the first floor of the building, and Nova Arts was born.

The college has been operational for four years now, and many students have graduated successfully. However, the building has faced some challenges, putting at risk the college's future viability. The main issue is the roof, which completely failed in stormy weather this year. This damaged the current studios as well as the spaces earmarked for refurbishment on our second floor. This is why we need your help.

We are working with the building owner to make it watertight again, and then plan to build out our second floor which will consist of:

New dance studios

Recording and video facilities

Student socialising and rest areas

Student Café

New Classrooms for Theory Study

NovaCity values business sustainability and with more students will come more income. As the NovaCity group grows, it will allow us to reinvest in our facilities. We had planned to do this refurbishment gradually, taking small steps to achieve our goals.

Now, with the damage caused our timeline has been sped up. The facility needs to be of an acceptable quality to remain open for current students and users of the NovaCity Barnsley Park.
