Nowhere To Call Home: Elderly Couple Raising Grandchildren
Donation protected
My parents are the most loving and selfless people I know; they always go out of their way to help others even when they don’t have the means to take care of themselves. On September 27th, Hurricane Helene destroyed their home.
This is especially hurtful, not because this is the home that they’ve come to love over the past 30 years, but because they are both currently dealing with so many devastating health problems. My dad had a bladder removal surgery on June 15th; due to complications, he was only able to spend roughly 3 weeks at home since then and had just made it out of rehab. He currently has Chronic Myelomonocytic Leukemia, an ostomy and colostomy bag that needs constant attention, and still has at least one major surgery to go.
My mom is a true matriarch that takes care of her family, even when it means putting off taking care of her own health issues. She has to wear oxygen everywhere she goes, has multiple sclerosis, and just learned today that she has breast cancer.
These are loving people, currently raising 2 of their grandchildren, who lost everything but a few pairs of clothes. My little sister didn’t have shoes to wear for about 2 days that weren’t soaked and covered in mud. She is empathetic and always finding ways to take care of others. My little brother is the valedictorian of his high school but has nowhere to call home.
Please help! Donate if you can, there is no amount too small. If you can’t donate, then all I ask is that you share this page and help me spread their story. I’d do anything for my parents, but now they need more than I’m able to provide. Thank you all!
