Support Earthquake Relief in Myanmar

Donation protected
This campaign is a collaboration between Burmese Students of University of British Columbia (Vancouver), University of British Columbia (Okanagan), UBC Center for Southeast Asian Research & UBC Institute for Asian Research, Simon Fraser University, University of Waterloo, University of Guelph, and University of Alberta that aims to rally Myanmar’s community in Canada, Canadians and the global community to help Myanmar in its time of need. We are raising funds to provide urgent, life-saving assistance to those impacted by the earthquake.

Background
On March 28, 2025, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar — one of the strongest in decades and the sixth-largest in the 21st century. The destruction has been heartbreaking: entire towns reduced to rubble, thousands injured or displaced, and families left without homes, food, or medical care. As of 30th March, Myanmar has recorded over 2000 deaths and nearly 3000 injuries, with numbers rising daily. Survivors are in desperate need of basic resources and critical tools to save lives, including:
  • Clean drinking water
  • Temporary shelter (tents, blankets, tarps)
  • Medical supplies (bandages, antibiotics, trauma kits)
  • Heavy machinery to break through collapsed buildings and rubble
  • Power sources and communication tools
  • Hygiene kits to prevent the outbreak of disease in camps

Who we will donate to
All proceeds will be donated to Better Burma, our beneficiary, a well-known and reputable nonprofit that focuses entirely on Myanmar. They’ve consistently supported communities in need and have the connections to ensure funds reach those directly affected by the earthquake.

Who We Are
We are the UBC Myanmar Student Association, a student club at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, Canada — a community of Burmese students dedicated to fostering connections and promoting awareness. For many of us, Myanmar is home — our families, friends, and memories reside there. As we watch this tragedy unfold from afar, we feel an overwhelming responsibility to take action. We hope to show that even as students, even from across the world, we can mobilize compassion and real impact.
