NPH Orphanage Dominican Repub Playground Project

Donation protected
Nuestros Pequenso Hermanos NPH (My little Brothers and Sisters) is an Orphanage in the Dominican Republic. The children come from the Bateys(sugarcan shantytowns). Darren and Claire are living there to open a Primary Care and Surgical Center Hospital for One World Surgery.

I accompanied them on their move down and was Inspired to Action

Did you happen to see last night's 60 Minutes segment about the Refugee Children?
There are many similarities: Heat and Humidity that is truely Unbearable, No running drinking water, conditions that are the worst povery I have ever seen : corregated tin houses, dirt floors, no indoor toilets.
The orphanage is a Refuge to 185 At Risk Children who neither the Dominican Republic nor Haite will claim as citizens because of their birth parents.

How can I/we help?
First:
I would like to repair and maintain the primary-school age play structure located in the large community park. Installed when the orphanage was opened, the years have taken their toll. It is rusty , broken and dangerous.

Second
Provide age-appropriate and inclusive play equipment for the Montessori School located on the grounds of the orphanage. I would like them to have a roller slide, Accellerator Swing, and a Spinner Merry Go Round .  I am working with Diego Montenegro with Miracle Recreation/Play Power on a design . We will be employing a local Dominican playground construction company to repair the existing structure and assemble the new equipment. We have an estimated cost of  $ 25,000
for completion of these needs

My first fundraiser was a garage sale.  Donations came in from all over the Boulder/Longmont area.  I raised over $400 (okay, not even close to the goal - yet!).
I have Purchased a CD for $6,000 and have a Savings account for $1,000 from which I will draw to MATCH any Private contributions.

Depending on the final amount raised, Keiran Rigney, NPH administrator will help us determined what will best serve the needs of most Pequenos.

To further the cause, I am seeking help in applying for grants.

On my last visit I learned that the special needs kids in the San Marcos Casa have captured the hearts of donors.  They have a therapy pool, bolster, and positioning equipment. Therefore, I redirected my focus from providing a very expensive wheelchair-accessible swing to providing the Montessori School playground equipment and repairing and maintaining the existing primary structure in the park.

This is a first-ever adventure for me. Please help make my dream come true!
