NPU-S Senior Lawncare 2023

Hey there! This is Nick Hess, Chair of Neighborhood Planning Unit S.

NPU S is a quiet, verdant cluster of residential neighborhoods in Southwest Atlanta – Cascade, Oakland City, Bush Mountain, and Venetian Hills. We love our leafy slice of the city and work hard to keep our homes presentable. However, many of our senior citizens are on fixed incomes and need to prioritize food, utilities, and medical care over lawn service – even though yard work can be hazardous for the elderly.

This is where NPU-S’s Senior Lawncare Program comes in. This award-winning program, which has been labeled a Signature Project by the City of Atlanta, provides free basic lawn care services for NPU residents 62 or older.

Furthermore, we hire local mowers from within the community, providing a double benefit for our constituents and helping to foster relationships within the neighborhood. Lastly, the program generates trust and goodwill between the NPU and its residents – making it easier for us to enroll residents in additional programs such as wellness checks and food assistance.

Even a small donation of $40 means one more property beautified, one more senior protected, one more resident paid for honest work. $400 keeps us going over a week; $1200 keeps us going for a month.
