Guess who is running the Cape Cod Half Marathon (13.10 miles) on October 30th (Kevin’s 69th BDay!)?We ran the Cape Cod Marathon, my first, Kevin’s 2nd, at the ages of 66 (and 67) on October 27th, 2019 in hopes of raising as much money as possible for Tommy’s Place, a vacation home for childhood cancer families. We chose this race because it takes place in Falmouth, where Tommy’s Place recently opened after a few years of blood, sweat, tears and $$$ from a TON of kind hearted souls. Back in the 70’s, our own beautiful Angel, Stacy, was battling a brain tumor and we were so blessed to have a family friend lend us their cozy summer home on the ocean in Plymouth, Mass. for a week. I had always hoped that someday I would have the means to pay it forward, so here’s my opportunity. Ironically (or is it?), Tommy’s Place is named after the late Tommy Leonard, a humble man and runner who had a heart of gold and created the Falmouth Road Race back in 1973. Also, I have many happy memories of vacationing in Falmouth in my youth, my late Dad’s name was LEONARD and my son’s name is TOMMY LEONARD Kelly! How many more “signs” do I need? Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you’ll consider donating to this great cause. xo PS ~ “Tim the Creator” kindly named one of the rooms, “Stacy’s Room,” and warmed this mama’s heart more than he realized. Knowing our Stacy wasn’t forgotten (or never will be) means THE WORLD to me.
More information about Tommy’s Place can be found through their FB page (Tommy’s Place) or their website.
