Hi. My name is Jefferson He and I’m a 17-year-old Editor-in-Chief of Harbingers’ Magazine, an online current affairs magazine written and edited by teenagers from different parts of the world and diverse walks of life. The magazine is part of the Oxford School for the Future of Journalism (OXSFJ), a nonprofit initiative dedicated to empowering young voices in media.
One of the most inspiring projects we run is the Nepali Newsroom. For the past two years, I’ve had the honour of coordinating this newsroom, where we teach ten students from Mountain Children’s Home in Dandagaun, Kathmandu – aged 11–17 – journalism twice a week. Alongside the media skills, we provide them with English, dancing and singing lessons. During my annual trips to the Home, I’ve been amazed by the incredible growth of storytelling and media skills. You can explore some of their published articles here.
As part of our vision, Harbingers’ plans to launch a printed version of our newspaper published in Nepal, ensuring their voices reach wider audiences.
However, the Mountain Children’s Home faces significant challenges. Its primary donor is struggling to meet the children’s needs. I’m launching this fundraising for two urgent issues:
1) The orphanage is located in a national Park in Kathmandu and the children must walk up and down the mountain daily to attend the school. This trek has become increasingly dangerous due to a rise in road incidents. I aim to raise funds for a car to safely transport children to and from school, reducing the risks they face on the roads.
2) The Home’s food and drink supplies are critically limited. Your support could help us to ensure that the children have enough nutritious food and essential resources for their daily lives.
Every contribution, big or small, will directly impact the lives of these children. Together we can make a tangible difference.
Thank you for supporting the cause.
