NSC Cheerleading World Championship in Florida

Who are we? NSC is a cheerleading club based in Newcastle. What started as a small group of athletes over 15 years ago, has grown to be a programme of over 60 members aged 5-30 who compete nationally.

Our coaches have been running sessions in the local community allowing young people to participate in a fun and physically active extracurricular activity that promotes good wellbeing, along with other life skills such as teamwork and commitment. It also opens up the opportunity to grow in confidence, and be recognised for their hard work and achievements that they may not get to experience outside of the gym.

 

Like with any sport, every cheerleaders dream and ultimate end goal is to compete in the world championships. With NSC being a small team, we never imagined that our dream would actually materialise, and here we are! Our many years of training, hard work and competing finally paid off when we secured a qualifying bid to the world championships in Florida, 2023!

 

We currently train in a rented hall space, we don’t have our own venue with the facilities and equipment that we would love to have - this is our next goal! Although we’re so appreciative of what we have, we believe that with the proper facilities and equipment; e.g. a sprung floor, we’d be able to give our athletes the opportunity to develop even further, and potentially be able to expand our program and offer this opportunity to more young people in the community.

Over the years we have had the privilege witness so many of our members, in particular young girls, flourish into confident and talented individuals, inside and outside of cheerleading. We hope to be able to open this to many more!

Like any competitive sport, cheerleading can become very expensive, especially when it involves travelling. Your generosity will help ensure that every athlete will have an equal opportunity to experience this (hopefully not) once in a lifetime moment!
