THE EVEREST CHALLENGE
The Everest challenge came about as a way to keep motivated for keeping in shape and to raise some money for important causes.
The challenge is to climb the height of Everest in your own locale. The journey starts from Lukla (2800m) to Everest Base Camp (5,364m). Then starts the ascent of Everest itself; over 3500 metres of the most dangerous terrain in the world. At 7925 we arrive at Camp 3 which is officially in the dead zone. From there the summit has to be reached and descent into the safe zone can take no more that 4 days, before the brain shuts down. Once the summit has been reached, there are two bonus milestones. The climb from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. And then if you still haven’t had enough the climb from Kolkata at sea level to Kathmandu.
Participants will need to download Strava or another exercise app that record the elevation covered in walks/runs. (NB distance is unimportant for this challenge just the cumulative altitude/elevation gained.) We also encourage that you publish photos of yourself superimposed on a photo of each milestone (location).
