Tax deductible
Hey fam, it’s us…the FOOOOD FIGHTERS!
As the holiday season is fast approaching, we ask you to join us in helping our community. It’s the season of giving right?! We have chosen to support the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) by launching this GoFundMe (GFM) campaign. With the motto of “Providing Food for Today and Hope for Tomorrow”, NTFB’s mission is to support the North Texas community by providing healthy and nutritious meals. Your mission is to support this important project with your wallet!
Holidays are the times friends and family gather to celebrate and enjoy each other’s company, and as we all know, food is the star of most of these gatherings. But you may not know that many of our neighbors struggle to feed their families. In the area served by the North Texas Food Bank, 16% of all individuals experience food insecurity. The rate of children with food insecurity is even higher – almost 21%. That’s why we are asking you, yes YOU, to join us in supporting our community to bridge the gap between government assistance, income, and providing food to families in need.
Want to know how those dollars will be spent (yes you do)? We got ya’ covered! Funds will be transferred from GFM directly to the organization. The NTFB will allocate funds as they see fit, but the information publicly posted on the NTFB site states every dollar raised equals 3 meals for those in need.
Food insecurity in our communities has a far-reaching and long-lasting impact. Amy tells her story of why supporting the North Texas Food Bank is so important to her.
"As a property manager in my past career, I worked directly with the least advantaged families in my area who were dependent on federal and local programs to afford a roof over their heads and make ends meet. These families were also dependent on programs like WIC or SNAP, and when times got harder, they relied on food banks to fill the gaps. Many urban areas, especially inner-city areas are “food deserts” with few grocery stores in the immediate area. This doesn't seem like a difficult issue until you think about those who may not be able to afford a car, or multiple vehicles for their families, and how dependent they are on public transport. Public transport is often inefficient and making an errand like grocery shopping can take 3x longer when you don’t have your own transportation. I have seen families having to choose between buying food and paying for their utilities. They would choose to starve to keep the lights on. The local food bank saved these families from hunger. This is why I will always involve myself with local food banks in my area. “ - Amy Weems
